Sex Therapy for ADHD, AuDHD & Autism

Sex Therapy with ADHDers, AuDHDers of Autistic often addresses:

Sensory Sensitivities: Neurospicy people may experience heightened or diminished sensitivity to touch, texture, or other sensory inputs during intimate moments.

Impulsivity and Hyperfocus: ADHD can lead to impulsive sexual behaviors or, conversely, intense focus on sexual thoughts, both of which may impact relationships and sexual satisfaction.

Distraction and Emotional Dysregulation: Difficulty maintaining focus during intimate moments and challenges in regulating emotions can affect sexual experiences.

Internalized Shame and Trauma: Past experiences of stigma or trauma related to neurodivergence can influence sexual self-esteem and behavior.

What therapy approaches are helpful?

Navigating ADHD and neurodivergence—especially in the context of relationships, intimacy, and self-worth—requires thoughtful, flexible approaches. We integrate evidence-based methods designed to honor your unique brain, body, and experiences. Here's how we may work together:

🔗 Attachment-Based Therapy

Many neurodivergent individuals—especially those with ADHD—experience challenges related to emotional regulation, trust, or fear of abandonment in close relationships. Attachment-based therapy helps identify and heal early relational patterns that continue to affect intimacy, boundaries, and self-esteem. We explore how past relationships shape current dynamics and work toward developing secure, connected bonds with yourself and others.

🧘 Somatic and Mindfulness-Based Approaches

ADHD often lives in the body as much as the mind—through restlessness, sensory overwhelm, or dysregulation. Many neurodivergent people struggle with attunement and honestly can't answer the overused stereotypical therapy question of: "Where do you feel that in your body?" With that in mind, we may use body-based practices (mindfulness, grounding, or movement) to help increase awareness and tolerance of emotional states. Mindfulness tools can support present-moment awareness and reduce impulsivity or overthinking.

💬 Emotion Regulation & Communication Skills

We work on building tools for navigating emotional storms and expressing needs clearly. This is especially important in sex and relationship therapy, where difficulty with timing, focus, or self-advocacy can complicate intimacy. DBT-informed tools or cognitive techniques may be used to support growth in this area.

❤️ Sex-Positive, Trauma-Informed Support

Many neurodivergent individuals experience sexual shame, confusion, or overwhelm. My approach is sex-positive, inclusive, and grounded in consent and body autonomy. If trauma is part of your story, we move at your pace and prioritize emotional and nervous system safety. Sadly a lot of autistic people are infantalized and talked down to while ADHDers experience much more criticism in their lifetimes so these are lenses I operate from while supporting clients to heal, take themselves seriously when others haven't and find self-acceptance in an unaccepting world.

🧠 Neurodivergence-Affirming Care

Rather than pathologizing difference, we honor your neurotype. While neurodivergence can be disabling, there are also beautiful strengths and rich identity I can help you discover and honor.  I'll adapt our sessions to fit your communication style, how you process, sensory preferences, and pacing needs—whether that means allowing movement during sessions, integrating visuals, or breaking down concepts in a way that feels accessible and empowering.

If you're interested in finding an online sex therapist specializing in neurodivergence in Denver area or across Colorado, I can assist you in locating professionals who meet these criteria. Let me know your preferences, and I'll provide recommendations that align with your needs.

Let’s Work Together!

Real talk: Phone calls are scary if you're neurodivergent, doubly so if you're a millennial or Gen Z. I will have you fill out a brief, mostly multiple-choice questionnaire ahead of time so the call can go over in detail your questions if helpful, or we can keep it short and sweet. At its bare bones, I just need to confirm you're a human being, not a bot, in the spammy landscape we'll all surviving in.

If you aren't ready to commit to a phone call and have questions, that's totally cool too!
